Le tableau était autrefois dans une chapelle de l'église de Sant'Apollinare , Venise . Après la suppression de l'église , la photo a été prise en france et coupée en deux . les deux pièces ont été achetées par la famille chiesa pour le brera , la peinture a été restaurée dans sa forme originale en 1950 . Dans ce grand tableau , tiepolo confronté au style de piazzetta , et en même temps retourné aux éléments des grands modèles vénitiens du cinquecento , tel que Veronese's pala di san zaccaria .
